Why would I want to send money from my cell phone?
You would want to send money from your cell phone to,
  • Help a friend or family member who needs money quickly or in an emergency.
  • Pay back friends or family  immediately any time when borrowed who could also be in another city in India.
  • Send money from your mobile phone when you don’t have cash with you.
Obopay is indeed a safe, speedy and convenient way of paying and helping friends and family!

How do I start sending money?
To register with Obopay, you are required to go to an Obopay partnering bank’s branch and fill up and sign the registration form. You will receive a “Getting Started” kit in the mail on registration along with an SMS registration.

Once registered there are many ways to use Obopay:

  • Use text (SMS) messages.
  • You can download the Obopay mobile application, if your mobile phone is a GPRS enabled with an active GPRS connection. Obopay works with virtually all the mobile phones in India.
  • Go to https://wap.obopay.in from your phone's internal browser and click on the "Get Obopay on Java" link in the home page. GPRS access is required on the phone to use this feature.

Is there a maximum amount I can send?
Your banks will place limits on what is the minimum/maximum amount that you are allowed per transactionas per the bank’s policy.

Your bank may also limit on the amount of money that you send per day, week or month.

Your bank may set a limit on the number of transactions and amount of each transaction you can carry out in a day, week or month.

Your bank will inform you of all these rules and conditions in writing when you register for the service. Should you have any further clarifications, you should contact your bank.
Can I send money to someone who does not have an Obopay account?
No, Not Currently

Can I cancel a payment I've made?
No, sending money happens instantly and in real time , so it cannot be cancelled the same way an internet banking transaction cannot be cancelled

I received a message about a 'duplicate transaction.' What does this mean?
You got this message because we received more than one request from you to do the same transaction in a short amount of time. We block the second request as a security measure. These security measures are taken to protect your account against fraudulent activities and in your interests.

If you're not sure if your transaction went through, , you should check your History.

What does it mean to 'Get money'?
If someone owes you money or if you wish to get money from someone, you can send them a request to get money from them. An automated IVR call will be made to them, letting them know of your request to 'get money'. They can accept or decline your request. As soon as they accept the request, the money goes into your primary account ( please see definition of Primary account in this section) and we send you an SMS notifying that you received a payment. In case the request is rejected also, we will send you a notification.
How much does it cost to make a 'Get Money' request?
Your bank may charge a transaction fee depending on your account type or profile. Please check with your bank for more details.
Can I make a 'Get Money' request to someone who is not an Obopay customer?
Not at present. The person you'd like to make the 'Get Money' request to, must already be an Obopay customer.
What is a primary account?
A primary account is one among all the accounts (banks) you have enabled Obopay for, which receives all the money sent to you by other Obopay registered customers ( please check with Bipin on this).

Yes, always. A confirmation SMS will be sent.
