What is Obopay and what can I do with it?
Obopay is an exciting and innovative mobile payment service that lets any mobile phone user in India:
  • Instantly receive, transfer and spend money from their mobile phone.   Anytime, anywhere, with anyone.
  • Share a dinner bill and pay your friend back right on the dinner table.
  • Any time you want to transfer funds or review your account activity, do it all from your mobile phone.
Which are the banks that Obopay has tied up with?
Obopay is currently tied up with YES BANK.  Many more banks will be joining us soon.
How much does Obopay cost? Are there any fees involved?
Obopay is absolutely free to download onto your phone. Your bank may decide to charge a signup fee and/or transaction fee based on your account type or profile. You should contact your bank to know more details.
Does Obopay work on all phones!
Absolutely! Obopay works on all phone models, make or operators (both GSM and CDMA). Obopay is a universal application which anyone can use.
How do I use Obopay on different channels?
Obopay is CROSS CHANNEL which means You can use Obopay on different channels like the Obopay Application, WAP, or SMS whichever you feel comfortable with. For using the Obopay application you will need to have GPRS activated on your phone through your telecom operator
Obopay Application (J2ME)
  1. Text <Obopay> to 56161.
    You will receive an SMS message with the download link for the J2ME application from 56161.
  2. Click on the link similar to the one given below to download the application http://server.obopay.in/RequestBroker/welcome?auth=<Mobile Number> 

    Note: The link differs for different customers based on the authorization key generated for the customer’s mobile number.

  1.  Follow the download instructions. The application is available on the phone.
  2.   Launch the application and select an option from the main menu to perform the transaction.
WAP
  1. Text <Obopay> to 56161.
    You will receive an SMS message from 56161 containing the User Id and password. 
  2. Click the link https://wap.obopay.co.in in the text message which will prompt your mobile phones internet browser.
  3. Enter your User Id and Obopay Password that you received as part of the welcome message. Login into the application.
  4. You will be prompted to change your Obopay Password after you login in for the first time and at regular intervals.
  5. Select an option from the main menu. For example, if you want to pay someone for lunch
    • Enter mobile number of the recipient (let's assume it is 9845-302-8732)
    • Enter the amount you want to pay him (let's assume it is Rs. 550)
    • Enter your bank MPIN
    • Confirm payment

  6. Be sure to bookmark this web address in the Internet browser on your mobile phone for future reference.
SMS - IVR
All text messages have to be sent to 56161. For more information on this, refer to the section on SMS Commands.
How long does it take to become an Obopay customer?
Its very easy. You can sign up quickly for Obopay by:
  • Filling out an application form with an Obopay partnering Bank at their local branch
  • Downloading the application/start using application when you get the notification that you have been enabled in Obopay

Do I need Internet access from my mobile phone for Obopay to work? What if I don't have this?
No, Obopay works on any phone even without internet access.

If you don’t have internet access, you can use SMS or call in to the Obopay IVR number 022 39156500.

How can I contact Obopay?

If you are a new prospective customer, then you will need to get into touch with your bank to get yourself enabled for the Obopay services and then start using the services.

How do I register for Obopay Services?
To register with Obopay, you are required to go to an Obopay partnering bank’s branch and fill up the registration form. You will receive a “Getting Started” kit in the mail on registration along with an SMS registration.

Once registered there are many ways to use Obopay:

  • Use text (SMS) messages.
  • You can download the Obopay mobile application, if your mobile phone is a GPRS enabled with an active GPRS connection.

    Note: On CDMA phones the download of the Obopay application is available through the service providers.
  • Obopay works with virtually all the mobile phones in India.
  • Go to https://wap.obopay.in from your phone's internal browser and click on the "Get Obopay on Java" link in the home page. Internet access is required on the phone to use this feature.
